Update: When Julian and I visited Hot Creek a few days ago, it was closed to swimming by the Forest Service on account of increased thermal activity, including a new geyser in one of the pools. We did see a couple bathing, despite the ban. But the risk has obviously increased (although the Forest Service's actions have to be regarded in light of their desire to shut the place down since the 1960s). It is unclear whether Hot Creek will reopen to bathers.
